  55. 1. NOD32 - NEW SYSTEM UPGRADE! (ENVIRONMENT VERSION: 1.023)

  57.    MAIN NEWLY IMPLEMENTED FEATURES:
  58.  
  59. A) New anti-virus operating memory (RAM) scanner.
  60.  
  61.    Several unique algorithms providing scanning of computer operating memory were 
  62.    implemented for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000 platforms. NOD32 applies state-of-the-art 
  63.    scanning of the operating memory to detect viruses, worms and Trojan horses.

  65. B) Increased security of update processes!
  66.  
  67.    NOD32 Control Center module (NOD32CC) provides automatic update and network 
  68.    functions of NOD32 anti-virus system. New security measures were addopted 
  69.    to secure authenticity and integrity of the update files transfered from ESET's 
  70.    update server to clients' computers via Internet.
  71.  
  72.    Authenticity of the transfered files is protected by means of digital signature 
  73.    based on improved PGP standards. NOD32CC automatically checks for the authenticity 
  74.    of the update files and, in case of any discrepancy, reports all irregularities 
  75.    to a client.

  77.    All digitally signed update files (files with .nup extension), ca be verified 
  78.    using ESET's public encryption/decryption key. Applied method of protection is 
  79.    highly reliable and proven protection means.

  81. C) Update Support for Isolated Computers
  82.  
  83.    To facilitate update of computers not connected to Internet and/or compter 
  84.    network (isolated, stand-alone computers), new version of NOD32CC supports 
  85.    their update by means of CDs or the floppy disks. This option is available 
  86.    in the "Mirror setup" dialog window , click at the "Advanced..." button.

  89. 2. Version 1.019

  91. A) New anti-virus e-mail filter has been implemented in NOD32 system. The filter 
  92.    scans all incoming e-mail messages for clients using POP3 protocol, such as 
  93.    Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, Eudora, etc.

  95.    How does the anti-virus filter work?
  96.  
  97.      NOD32 for POP3 is a flow-through scanner. It is located in between the e-mail 
  98.      program (POP3 client) and the e-mail server (POP3 server). As data flows 
  99.      through the filter, they are checked for the virus infiltrations. If 
  100.      an infiltration is found, a warning window is displayed. The filter itself 
  101.      will not remove the detected infiltration. This job is done by the anti-virus 
  102.      system itself.

  104. B) Another new feature implemented in the new NOD32 version is its capability 
  105.    to clean curently running (or opened) infected file. NOD32 cleans a copy 
  106.    of the infected file and, after the computer had been restarted, the system 
  107.    replaces the infected copy with the clean one.

  109.    IMPORTANT NOTE (for on-demand scanning and cleaning)!
  110.    1. Before proceeding with ON-Demand scanning and cleaning it is recommended 
  111.       that all running applications are closed.
  112.    2. If On-Demand scanning reports detection and cleaning of infected files, 
  113.       it is important to reboot your system to ensure the infected files are 
  114.       permanently replaced. 
  115.    3. You will be prompted to reboot the system after the cleaning has been 
  116.       completed. Reboot the computer immediately to avoid further spread of 
  117.       the infiltration. Do not run any other application.
  118.    4. To double check the cleaning procedure, repeat the NOD32 scan after 
  119.       the reboot of you computer.

  121.    NOTE:
  122.     AMON resident anti-virus monitor will not clean the currently running 
  123.         infected files. To clean the files, use NOD32 On-Demand scanner. 
  124.         (Start -> Programs -> ESET -> NOD32).

  126. C) Changes in the NOD32 Control Center:
  127.    1. Improved control of the contents of the update/mirror directory during 
  128.       the update.
  129.    2. File integrity check (applied to the update files).
  130.    3. Immediate modification of the Configuration file regardless of the change 
  131.       in current version build.
  132.    4. Update set-up enabled upon the system restart only.

  137. A) New update and management system is among the most important changes 
  138.    implemented in this version. For detail information, please, visit us

  140. B) New NOD32 Control Center module was integrated in NOD32. The Control Center
  141.    was developed to support NOD32 multi-level network management and update 
  142.    system.
  143. C) All NOD32 key modules are now equipped with automatic report messaging 
  144.    system. Virus incidents and other defined events can be sent via SMTP 
  145.    to any predefined address/es.
  146. D) Enhanced management of extensions of the files to be tested/scanned was 
  147.    implemented as well. New extensions can be added while the virus signature 
  148.    database is updated. No restart of the computer is required.

  153. A)  Version 1.37 provides you with reliable detection and cleaning of the new
  154.     VBS/NewLove.A worm.

  157. 5.  Version 1.36 (20000511) 
  158.     The new version is upgraded in two ways:
  159.  
  160. A)  Newly developed heuristic analysis applicable for the script viruses has
  161.     been implemented for your protection. This unique algorithm working for
  162.     Visual Basic and Java scripts allows detection of yet unknown viruses which
  163.     will take advantage of the replication and spreading methods similar to
  164.     those of the viruses/worms such as LoveLetter, BubbleBoy, Kak, Unicle
  165.     and the like.
  166. B)  A number of new virus signatures were added to the new version including
  167.     the W97M/Humanit.

  170. 6.  Version 1.34 (20000418) released on April 18 2000 brings several
  171.     improvements.
  172.  
  173. A)  Implemented resident e-mail message protection for 
  174.     Outlook/Exchange clients is one of the major changes in the new version.
  175.     This protection also works for e-mail clients with  MAPI compatible 
  176.     interface.
  177.     How the protection works: If you get an e-mail message infected with 
  178.     a virus, NOD's module, in charge of e-mail protection, will tend to remove
  179.     the virus. At the same time, the original message will be moved to a new 
  180.     folder named "Infected messages". For the sake of preventing measures,
  181.     we will appreciate if you could forward the infected message for further
  182.     detailed analysis to our technical support division at: support@nod32.com.

  184.     Some details regarding the installation of the new resident e-mail
  185.     protection system: 
  186.     - First time installation
  187.  
  188.       During the first installation of NOD on your computer (version 1.34 or 
  189.       higher) a window will appear allowing you the option of installation of 
  190.       the resident e-mail protection into your standard profile. This option 
  191.       can later be disabled, or on the other hand, added to other profiles you
  192.       may be using. This can be carried out using the Tools/Servics menu of
  193.       Microsoft Outlook. The changes become effective after the restart of your 
  194.       Microsoft Outlook application.
  195.  
  196.     - Update of NOD via the execution of the setup.exe program
  197.       
  198.       Running of the setup.exe installation program turns on the resident
  199.       e-mail protection module automatically. In case you don't wish to have
  200.       this protection enabled, check the "I also want to change other settings"
  201.       check-box in the "Update installation" window. This action is followed by
  202.       the appearance of a window allowing you to disable this option.

  204.     - Update of NOD via the "Automatic Update" feature
  205.  
  206.       Update of NOD via the Automatic Update does not turn on the e-mail
  207.       protection module automatically. However, after the update of the system,
  208.       manual setting of the e-mail protection module can be done as described
  209.       above.
  210.  
  211.     NOTE: Once the resident e-mail protection is turned on, your incoming mail
  212.     messages will contain a label attached to them with the following reading:
  213.     
  214.     This message has been checked through the NOD32 for Exchange e-mail monitor
  215.     (http://www.nod32.com).
  216. B)  Optimized data storage and compression of NOD's components (in version 1.34
  217.     and higher) leads to reduced volume of the installation files speeding up
  218.     your download rates. The size of the update file (relevant for those who 
  219.     use the Automatic Update feature) has also been reduced.
  220.     The aforementioned compresions have, however, no effect on the performance
  221.     of NOD Anti-virus system whatsoever.

  224.     Due to improved compression the use of the directory "disk3" is history
  225.     and does not not appear in versions 1.34 and up.
